Namesake
For our Grandma Marlene, a no-nonsense Jersey grandma with sharp wit and an eye for detail. She still swaps out every curtain for the season, muttering, “What business do I have being on a ladder at 85?”
A lifelong quilter who believes in the power of pattern, she showed us that creativity could be as simple as a glue stick, fabric scraps, and the freedom to make something your own. Marlene reflects the philosophies we’ve absorbed from her and the rest of the women in our family: expressive, practical, beautifully made, and never too serious.
A Note from the Founders
As sisters, we’ve always been two halves of one brain. Colbie is left-brained, analytical, and a math whiz. Kelsey is a born creative, always dreaming in color. One of us is measured, the other instinctive, but we’re both drawn to design, aesthetics, and the joy of making things feel just right.
We grew up in a home where “figuring it out” and working with your hands was the ultimate skill, and gathering around a table with good people and even better stories was the ultimate reward. Those values shaped how we see the world and how we create in it.
Now, as working mothers with careers in merchandising and interior design, we felt a pull to build something together. Something intentional and full of heart. Something that felt both elevated and attainable.
We started Marlene to celebrate the charm in everyday moments: offering specialty prints and products that are thoughtful, playful, and made to be kept. Beauty isn’t always pristine; sometimes it’s a little offbeat, and that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.
